Whether you're a salaried employee in the US or UK, understanding your hourly rate can help you evaluate job offers, freelance opportunities, or contract work more accurately. Our calculator gives you a clear picture of your earnings per hour based on your annual salary.
This tool is especially useful if you're transitioning from a salaried role to hourly work, comparing different job offers, or trying to determine fair pay for part-time or contract work. In both the US and UK, salary structures can vary significantly, and knowing your hourly value is key to making informed financial decisions.
How the calculation works
Our calculator uses a standard formula to convert an annual salary into an hourly rate by dividing the total annual income by the number of working hours in a year. For the US, we typically use 2,080 hours per year (40 hours/week x 52 weeks), while in the UK, the average is also around 2,080 hours, though some industries may work slightly fewer hours. The formula is: Hourly Rate = Annual Salary ÷ 2,080 Hours. This gives a consistent and fair estimate of your earnings per hour, helping you compare different job opportunities or negotiate pay more effectively.
