Measuring your candidate conversion rate is essential for understanding the effectiveness of your hiring process. In both the US and UK, HR teams are increasingly using data to identify bottlenecks and improve efficiency. This metric helps you see where candidates drop off and where your process is working well.
By tracking conversion at each stage — from initial application to final offer — you can make informed decisions to enhance your recruitment strategy. A clear view of your funnel’s performance leads to smarter hiring, better candidate experience, and reduced time-to-hire.
How the calculation works
The Candidate Conversion Rate is calculated by dividing the number of candidates who move from one stage to the next by the number of candidates who entered that stage, then multiplying by 100 to get a percentage. For example, if 200 candidates apply and 50 pass the screening stage, your conversion rate for that stage is (50 ÷ 200) × 100 = 25%.
This formula applies to each stage of your funnel. The calculator will show you the conversion rate for each step and the overall conversion rate from application to hire. This helps identify where the most significant drop-offs occur, allowing you to focus your improvements where they’re needed most.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the total number of candidates who applied for the position.
- Input the number of candidates who progressed to each subsequent stage: screening, interview, assessment, offer, and hire.
- The tool will automatically calculate the conversion rate for each stage.
- Review the breakdown and overall conversion rate to identify areas for improvement in your hiring process.
